Here at Riva, we extend our passion for producing high-quality jewelry even further than our factory’s walls and into helping the community around us. For over three years, Riva has been donating to Jewelers for Children, a charity based out of New York. Jewelers for Children was founded in 1999 by the U.S. jewelry industry with the mission of helping children in need. Since its inception, JFC has donated more than $53 million to programs benefiting children whose lives have been affected by illness, abuse, or neglect.
The people that we help are not limited, however, to New York or even The United States. Riva’s global outreach initiatives affect communities and people all around the world.
Through Compassion International, a child-advocacy ministry, Riva has sponsored 55 children in various locations throughout South America. Compassion International pairs compassionate people with those who are suffering from poverty. The ministry releases children from spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty. The goal is for each child to become a responsible and fulfilled adult.
Compassion’s work has grown from modest beginnings in South Korea in 1952 when American evangelist Rev. Everett Swanson felt compelled to help 35 children orphaned by the Korean conflict. Today it is a worldwide ministry where millions of children are now reaping the benefits of one man’s clear, God-given vision.
Over the past several months, the focus has primarily been on two of Riva’s more recent initiatives and a fundraiser: the Blue Barrel initiative, the Outhouse initiative, and the “Wheelchair Fundraiser”, with the Outhouse still ongoing. For the Blue Barrel initiative, Riva filled four blue barrels with clothes, shoes, non-perishable foods, and school supplies to send to those in need in the Dominican Republic. We encouraged employees to give these items, with Riva matching any and all gifts.
For Riva’s Outhouse initiative, we are partnered with the families of Sabana Grande de Palenque, a small city in the Dominican Republic, to help them build outhouses for homes that are currently without functioning bathrooms. We are now donating $0.05 per unit that we ship out each month to our customers, and so far, three bathrooms have been built, and construction for a fourth one is underway!

Among the families in Sabana Grande de Palenque, there was a young girl by the name of Jatna Otaño. Jatna is a quadriplegic girl who was in desperate need of a new wheelchair, and after hearing about this need Riva held a fundraiser for a new wheelchair for Jatna and asked all employees to donate, with Riva matching any and all donations. The fundraiser was a success, and Jatna was able to receive the proper medical equipment she needed.
Our mission at Riva is to honor God through our service, process, and product excellence. However, this desire to honor God and serve other extends beyond our jewelry manufacturing. Riva embraces the need around the world by offering care and a strong desire to help in any way possible.
