Vermeil is made by applying a thick layer of gold (at least 10K) to a base of sterling silver through an electroplating process. The sterling silver is first cleaned, and then the gold is deposited onto the surface, forming a durable layer that is at least 2.5 microns thick. This process ensures the jewelry has the appearance of solid gold while maintaining the affordability and durability of sterling silver.
